Archives Awareness Week

Ontario celebrates Archives Awareness Week the first week in April every year.

The holdings at the Grey County Archives, including materials to be processed, measure 1,669 linear metres (1.669 kilometres) or 5,476 linear feet (over 1 mile), comprising over 900 collections. Born out of a need to house former municipal materials following amalgamation in the year 2,000, and married with the absorption of museum archival collecting which began in 1955, along with the subsequent collecting efforts of the Grey County Historical Society, the Archives categorizes its holdings as municipal, private, media, school or Women's Institute.

In celebration of Archives Awareness Week, it is free to visit the Archives, April 2-5. Please make an appointment in advance. Contact Karin Noble, Archivist, 548-877-0766, karin.noble@greyroots.com

Recognizing the origins of information is key to understanding the world around us. How history is interpreted changes over time and says as much about the moment in which it is being presented as the information itself.
