Introduction to Blacksmithing

Ever thought about trying your hand at blacksmithing? Grey Roots is once again offering an Introduction to Blacksmithing course, taught by longtime volunteer and lead smith Jim Underwood. 

Join our volunteer team, and learn the basics of blacksmithing in four sessions:
1: History of Iron, Fire-starting and Control, Hammer Control.
2: Drawing Out, Cutting, Splitting.
3: Upsetting (making metal thicker), Banding, Estimating lengths needed for projects.
4: How to Fasten Metal Together
a) Riveting
b) Braising or bronze-welding
c) Forge welding (not for demonstration purposes)

Fee: $50. This fee is fully refundable upon completion of 20 hours of volunteer service in Moreston Heritage Village this summer.
