Virtual Fall Lecture Series - Caring for Collections at Home

Enjoy this free online talk from the safety and comfort of your own home streaming live on Tuesday, November 23 at 1 p.m.

Ensuring the proper care and maintenance of your family heirlooms, antiques, and historic collections will allow them to be enjoyed for years to come. Join Nikita Johnston, Assistant Curator at Grey Roots Museum & Archives, as she discusses best practices for the care, cleaning and storage of historic objects and family treasures. A focus will be given to traditional materials and collections made of wood, metals, ceramic, glass, paper, textiles, and basketry.

Originally from Owen Sound, Ontario, Nikita has an Honours BA in Anthropology from Trent University, a Post Graduate Diploma in Collections Conservation & Management from Fleming College, a Masters of Archives & Records Management, and a Master of Museum Studies from the University of Toronto. Before returning to the Grey Bruce area to take on the position of Assistant Curator at Grey Roots, Nikita spent five years in Powell River, British Columbia working as the Collections Manager for the Powell River Historical Museum & Archives. Through her education and hands on experience, Nikita has become extremely adept at the maintenance, preservation, and display of all manner of artefacts. She looks forward to sharing her talent and passion with viewers.
