Cooking by the Calendar: A Tasty Tour of Traditions

Lettuce turnip the beet and explore how cultures around the world celebrate—with food as the guest of honour!

From sweet treats to savoury bites, holidays are full of must-have dishes that bring people together. In this hands-on, taste-test-friendly experience, students will explore fall and winter celebrations like Eid, Diwali, Christmas, Hanukkah, Day of the Dead, and more—through food, stories, and interactive stations.

Expect a mix of baking, discussion, and discovery as we stir up conversations about how people celebrate in Grey County and beyond. Students will leave with full bellies and fuller minds—plus a deeper appreciation for cultural diversity.

Subsidized Rates

We extend our heartfelt thanks to West Wawanosh Mutual Insurance for their generous support in promoting equitable access to Grey Roots for local learners. Thanks to their contribution, schools located more than 40 km from Grey Roots, situated in rural communities, or focused on First Nations learners are now eligible for a subsidized programming rate. Schools may receive between $50 and $150 in savings to help offset bussing costs.

This meaningful support helps ensure that hands-on learning experiences remain within reach for students across our region. We’re truly grateful for West Wawanosh Mutual Insurance’s ongoing commitment to education and community enrichment.
