Greenwood Cemetery Indigent Plot Reclamation Project

Grey Roots Museum & Archives is a supporting partner of this York University, Faculty of Education project funded by the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada to research the names of people buried in Greenwood Cemetery’s Indigent Plot, Owen Sound, which was active from the 1850s until the 1980s. In support of the new Potter's Field monument the project is combing through historical records - census reports, marriage, death and birth registries, land registries and newspaper death notices to reconstruct the lives behind the names of the 1200+ people who are buried in the plot.
