Fall Lecture Series: Battle of Passchendaele

2017 marks the centenary of the Battle of Passchendaele, a seminal event in the military history of the County. Join George Auer who will be focusing on this battle during his talk, which also features artefacts and a PowerPoint slide show.

George Scott Auer was raised in Scarborough, Ontario. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1976 and served with the First Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canada Light Infantry. He participated in three United Nations peacekeeping operations with them. George's final posting was to the Grey & Simcoe Foresters in Owen Sound as one of their Full Time Unit Cadre. During this time, his interest in all things military led him to research the rich military history of Grey County. This resulted in several projects including being the guest curator for The Lost Regiments of Grey County at Grey Roots Museum & Archives and One Man's Sacrifice at the South Grey Museum, Tenacious and Versatileat the Bishop Home and Museum, Community Producer of Roger's Cable documentary, From Pen to Post, along with authoring Soldiers of the Soil Grey County Goes to War: 1914-1918

This presentation is part of our Fall Lecture Series taking place on Tuesday afternoons in November at 2:30 p.m. in our Theatre. Complimentary refreshments following. Free with admission. Members free as always.
